Now we have started preparing a new programme “Music For The Soul” for next year, which will include pieces by Stanford, Rachmaninov, Byrd and others. We are also getting ready to sing Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices as a liturgical performance in a church.

Love’s Labours Programme
This was a 2024 season concert programme of a cappella music by Tallis, Stanford, C. Porter, Wilbye and many more! From madrigals and musicals, to motets and deeply moving music. And mingled with witty readings by a professional actor Anne Hume, there’s something for everyone!
past Concerts
St Mary & Holy Cross Church, Alderminster | Saturday 28th September 2024
We gave the fourth concert in the Love’s Labours series in this beautiful medieval church in Alderminster. Our thanks to the members of the church for the great arrangements and wonderful refreshments, and for encouraging such a good audience to attend.
The music encompassed a wide range: from the gentle to the lively, the solemn to the comic and the serious to the light-hearted. And the readings selected and wonderfully read by Anne Hume perfectly matched the mood of the music.
The great acoustic of this church provided a superb space for the choir. Your performance demonstrated great diction, balance and dynamics, beautifully enhancing the music and enabling the words to come to life. Thank you for a beautiful evening!
St. Lawrence Church, Milcombe | Saturday 21st September 2024
This church is located in a beautiful Oxfordshire countryside just outside of Banbury and it was a real pleasure for us to be supporting this lovely quaint church. In between our performance Anne Hume kept us all entertained, the organisers and audience thoroughly enjoyed it and good money was raised towards the church’s upkeep.
“I had sung in choirs all my life and your singing was really beautiful.”
St Peter’s Church, Radway | Saturday 29th June 2024
What a lovely evening we’ve had in a company of a very friendly audience from and around Radway. And it was so good to be staggered on the available steps of the church. This enabled for our harmonies to travel across the church beautifully and create even better impact on our audience. Thank you also to Anne Hume for her thought-provoking and entertaining readings. And a big thank you to our own alto Rosamund for an excellent organisation.
“I felt privileged to be at the concert and came away with a lovely sound in my head. The whole thing was a joy!”
St Eadburgha’s Church, Broadway| Saturday 15th June 2024
This was a very lovely small and friendly church and our very successful performance of Love Labour’s Programme was much loved by our audience who sent us lovely comments afterwards….
“Very enjoyable evening and one of the best concerts. The Choir was superb!”
“Brilliant concert in every way, with great entries, dynamics, diction and tuning! You clearly enjoyed it and really engaged with the supportive audience.”
“The Big Carol Sing” Christmas Concert – Townsend Hall, Shipston on Stour – 3rd December 2023
This Christmas fundraising concert for Shipston Proms took place at the Townsend Hall and we performed carols like the dancing In Dulci Jubilo or the haunting Coventry Carol. But it was called “The Big Carol Sing” as our audience also joined us for other well known carols like Little Town of Bethlehem or Hark The Herald Angels Sing. (**Click HERE to see a video of us all singing our hearts out!**) There was even a raffle and together we raised a substantial sum to keep the Shipston Proms going for another year!
“It truly was a magical afternoon that got us into the Christmas spirit!”
“Very professional performance!”
All Saints’ Church, Burton Dassett – 23rd September 2023
We last performed in the beautiful All Saint’s Church in 2014 and it was a real treat to be returning here after 9 years to support its upkeep fundraising concert yet again. With its incredible history and very capable and lovely organisers, it was a very special concert. There was even a raffle, canapes and bar organised by the church committee during interval to raise even more money for to keep this amazing church going! And despite a few hiccups during the concert we all laughed about, the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
This was the last time this year we performed our ‘Parish News!’ programme and we are getting ready for performing at a private wedding followed by The Big Carol Sing concert and preparing a new programme for next year.
“I’m so glad I made the concert! Stunning music and lovely readings!”
St Peter & St Paul Church, Blockley – 15th July 2023
Singing in our new outfits for the first time, it was lovely to be back in this beautiful venue with wonderful acoustics after many years! And despite the initial lighting issue during the rehearsal, our amazing organiser David managed to “shed some light” on us during the concert which turned out to be a big success. Big appreciation also goes to Anne for entertaining the audience with her witty readings in between the songs.
“Absolutely delightful concert!”
Shipston Proms 2023, Townsend Hall – 25th June 2023
We performed our “Parish News!” programme in the afternoon as part Shipston Proms 2023. Songs by Byrd, Porter, Palestrina, Morley, Bruckner, Lauridsen & many more were heard by our lovely audience who was also entertained by funny readings from Anne Hume. Despite temperatures in the hall raising to above 30 degrees Celsius, we all managed to stay upright and achieved a good performance!
” Such a beautiful pure sound – It was amazing! You are so good!”
“Well done for coping in the heat – you sounded great!”
St Edmund’s Church, Shipston On Stour – 22nd October 2022
Cantamus staged an autumn concert in St Edmund’s Church, Shipston-on-Stour. This was our first concert since Covid started and there was a lovely mix of uplifting music covering a wide range of genres from Purcell to the Beatles in our ‘Back in the Swing’ concert. The music was interspersed with witty readings, and the audience (and choir!) enjoyed mouth watering home-made cakes during the interval.
“A lovely combination of musical choices and readings performed in a relaxed environment. The choir were very well rehearsed and the readings were fun!
“Homemade cakes and tea completed a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thank you to everyone involved.”
